Abstract (EN)

This study has been conducted in order to determine the interest of secondary education students towards the genetic engineering or biotechnology. A poll consisting of two parts has been conducted upon students of the 9 th and 1 1th classes of Ankara Atatük Anatolian High School, Tevfik İleri Preacher and Prayer Hiigh School, Keçiören Kalaba Foreign Language High School, Ankara Applied Sciences High School and Mamak High School, In the first part of the poll there have been questions related to the students personal information, in the second part there have been questions to determine the interest towards biology, genetics and genetic engineering. The percentage and frequency of given answers to the poll by the students have been measured. In order to determine whether the interest towards genetic engineering of the 9 th and 1 1 th class students and high school types cause a 0.05 point difference, the "t" test has been applied. In conclusion, it became evident that the interest of students towards biology, genetics and genetic engineering is high, that there does not exist a significant change in the interest towards genetic engineering between the 9 th and 1 1 th classes, but that there is a change between the different high school types. It also became evident that the interest towards genetic engineering is higher at schools where students have to take exams pnor to entry.
