The conflict management style of the high school principles and the impact of these styles to the stress levels of the teachers

ABSTRACTConflict is inevitable where human being exist. Therefore conflicts happenbecause of various reason in every organization in various time. It is impossible toescape from conflict. Not having conflict shows that tehere are lack of interest andthinking laziness and there aren?t responsibilitiy and creativity. While it isn?timportant not having conflict, the level of its destructive is important.Stress is a concept that effect individuals and their behaviours, workproductiveties, relationships with other people. There are so many factors whichcause stress. One of them is the conflict between administrators and employees.Either directly or indirectly, stress and its consequences with their impact on workappeal to anyone to a great extend. Working life is a great part of human life andoffers solid significance in every aspect of life.This study is aimed to determine the conflict management style of the schoolprinciples and the impact of these styles to the stress levels of the teachers.The data of the research is taken from 450 teachers randomly chosen from 12high schools in seven center county of Ankara. The data is resolved, commented onand reported through statistical techniques, such as frequency, percentage, mean,annova and correlation.The findings of the study could be summarized as follows: school principles,while dealing with conflicts, which appear between teachers and school principles,mostly use domination then in order compromise, integration, avoidance and leastlyuse compensation styles. Stress levels of teachers have a negative relation withintegration, compensation, avoidance and compromise, positive relation withdomination. It is understood that female teachers according to male teachers perceivethat school principles use mostly domination styles. The style which creates the moststress is domination style, which creates the least stress is compromise style.
