Gaining the value of tolerance in secondary school 8th grade Turkish courses

When it comes to tolerance, one of the first people who comes to mind is undoubtedly Mevlana Celaleddin Rumi. He is known as a Sufi, theologian and a sufi mystic poet. Mevlana, who has an important place in Turkish literature, has written Mesnevi, Divan-ı Kebir, Mecalis to Seb, Mektuhat and Fih-ı Ma-fih works. In particular, his work called Mesnevi gives advice to his readers because it is didactic. It is very important in terms of value transfer in this work. The use of works in the transmission of values ensures that positive results are achieved. The aim of this study is to determine whether Masnavi has a positive effect on students' tolerance tendencies. 8 For this purpose. experimental and control groups consisting of twenty out of the class students were determined, and the tolerance attitude scale created by Taş (2018) was applied to both of them as a preliminary test. Then, 8 stories about tolerance from Mesnevi were read to the experimental group once a week, and the students were made to talk about these stories weekly and their thoughts were taken. No application was made in the control group during the process. at the end of 8 weeks, the tolerance attitude scale was re-applied to both groups, and it was determined that there was a positive significant difference in the tolerance scores of the experimental group students. No significant difference was found in the control group. This situation brings to mind that the stories about tolerance contained in Mevlana's Masnavi will contribute to the acquisition of the value of tolerance to students in secondary schools. There are many works that can be used for values education in Turkish literature, not only the Masnavi work. In addition, it would be useful to organize the activities of similar works in different disciplines and investigate the results.
