Competency perceptions of secondary school mathematics teachers about the level of the use of alternative measurement and evaluation techniques

In this research, the aim is to determine the competency perceptions of secondary school mathematics teachers on the level of the use of alternative measurement and evaluation techniques. Sampling of the research is made of 154 mathematics teachers working at 38 different secondary schools which are in Diyarbakır City. In the research, general survey model, one of the survey models, is used and data is obtained by ?Competency Perceptions about Alternative Measurement and Evaluation Techniques Scale? and ?The Level of The Use of Alternative Measurement and Evaluation Techniques Scale?. In order to analyze the data obtained from the research, descriptive statistics (frequency, percentage, arithmetic mean, standard variation), independent sampling t-test, one-way analysis of variance, Kruskal Wallis H, Mann Whitney U, Scheffe and LSD tests are used. The findings of the research can be summarized as: ?It was determined that competency perceptions of mathematics teachers about portfolio, project/performance study, structured grid, observation and interview techniques is at the level of ?I am considerably competent?; their competency perceptions about self/peer/group evaluation, rubric, attitude scale and control list is at the level of ?I am medium level competent?. ?It was determined that mathematics teachers use project/performance study, observation and interview techniques ?often?; portfolio, self/peer/group evaluation ?sometimes?; structured grid, rubric, attitude scale and control list ?rarely?. ?It was determined that competency perceptions of mathematics teachers about portfolio, project/performance study, structured grid, observation technique, rubric, and attitude scale and control list didn?t significantly vary according to the variable of ?sex? while there was significant difference in the perceptions about interview technique and self/peer/group evaluation. ?It was determined that competency perceptions of mathematics teachers about structured grid and control list didn?t significantly vary according to the variable of ?seniority? while there was significant difference in the perceptions about portfolio, project/performance study, observation technique, interview technique, self/peer/group evaluation, rubric, attitude scale . ?It was determined that competency perceptions of mathematics teachers about portfolio, project/performance study, structured grid, observation technique, interview technique, self/peer/group evaluation, rubric, attitude scale and control list ?in-service training level? didn?t significantly vary. ?It was determined that mathematics teachers? views about the whole of ?Competency Perceptions about Alternative Measurement and Evaluation Techniques Scale? was at the level of ?I am considerably competent? and their views about the whole of ?The Level of The Use of Alternative Measurement and Evaluation Techniques Scale? is at the level of ?sometimes?. Besides that, it was determined that while their views didn?t vary about the whole of ?Competency Perceptions about Alternative Measurement and Evaluation Techniques Scale? and ?The Level of The Use of Alternative Measurement and Evaluation Techniques Scale? in terms of the variables of ?sex? and ?in-service training level?, their views significantly varied in terms of ?seniority?.
