Abstract (EN)

This research was carried out to revıew on the perceptions of secondary school teachers, students and parents related to give the homework. The sampling of the research which is organized as a mixed method research is composed of 750 students studying in secondary schools determined by cluster sampling method in Adana province during 2016-2017 school year, 120 teachers giving mathematics lessonin secondary schools and 170 students studying in secondary schools.In the study, in order to find out views of participants about homework, the researcher developed Mathematics Lesson Student Perception Scale (MDÖ1ÖAÖ), Mathematics Lesson Teacher Perception Scale (MDÖÖAÖ) and Mathematics Lesson Parents Perception Scale (MDVÖAÖ) and applied them to participants determined in 2016-2017 School Year. In the qualitative dimension of the research, semi-structured interview forms were used in collecting data and in total 46 people, 25 students, 12 mathematics teachers and 9 parents, were interviewed, these people were determined on a volunteer basis. For quantitative data, Independent groupst-test and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), Mann Whitney-U test and Kruskal Wallis H test were usedand qualitative data were analysed with the content analysis. As a result of analysis of quantitative data; perceptions of students about mathematics homework are generally positive. There is no significant difference by genderregarding the mean of total scores of MDÖ1ÖAÖ. Significant difference was found in the sub-factors of MDÖ1ÖAÖ. A significant difference was found considering the class level when views of secondary school students were examined. The perceptions of secondary school mathematics teachers about homework were found to be positive. There is no significant difference by gender regarding homeworkgiven by mathematics teachers. No significant difference could be found regarding views of secondary school mathematics teachers on giving homework according to professional seniority. No significant difference could be found regarding views of secondary school mathematics teachers on giving homework according to the higher education program graduated. It seems that the perceptions of secondary school parents regarding mathematics homework are appropriate. There is no significant difference by gender regarding the opinions of parents on mathematics homework. There is no significant difference by the region where the school is located regarding the opinions of the parents on the mathematics homework. There is no significant difference by education level regarding the opinions of the parents on mathematics homework. As a result of analysis of qualitative data; The reason why students make mathematical homework on time is the fact that homework is test, behaviours of teacher, and that they like mathematics. The students stated that their homework check is done by their friends.As a requirement of homework, students reinforce what they learn and increase their grades. Students stated that they benefit from their friends and notebook of their friends when they are doing homework. Teachers suggested that students do tests, benefit fromnotebooks, and do their homework on time.Teachers stated that when giving homework, they take into consideration that the homework is consistent with achievements, the test is a test and they pay attention to class level. Many of the teachers stated that they get students check homework and that homework has a positive effect on the success of the lesson. They stated that the teachers give homework for students to learn the subject better and to preparefor the TEOG exam. Parents stated that homework are checked by the teachers and all parents stated that homework has a positive effect on the success of the lesson. Many of the parents stated that homework is necessary for the benefit of students. Some parents stated that homework is not necessary because it brings financial burden. As a result, it is shown that teachers adopted strategies of giving homework. On the job training should be given to teachers to inform them about what to pay attention while giving homework, the purpose of homework and homework. Teachers put forward that exam-focused approach is displayed when giving homework. In our education system, arrangements should be made to remove the causes of this situation. It is seen that the perceptions of parents towards homework are positive. Parents should be informed regarding how to help studentswith their homework. Because there is no differenceby educational level of the parents and the region where the school is located, the schools should work on homework, so the cooperation between parents and school is ensured to increase.
