Social studies lesson and learning-teaching process in middle school students' drawings

Social Studies Lesson and Learning-Teaching Process in Middle School Students' Drawings In this study, it was aimed to examine and determine how the middle school students reflect social studies lesson in their drawings. In this content, students' perceptions intended for social studies lesson and the features of learning-teaching process in social studies lessons were stated. In this study, phenomenological study, which is one of the research techniques, was used and the datas were obtained from the students' drawings and the explanations about the drawings. In the determining of the participants maximum sampling method was used and 118 5th, 6th and 7th middle school students who receive education in three middle school in the central district of Isparta were included in the study. In analyzing the datas content analysis technique was used. At the end of the study, these results were reached: • It was determined that the students have some perceptions about the content and scope of social studies lesson, the structure of social studies lesson they face and the interdisciplinary nature of social studies lesson. However, it was seen the almost all of the students reflected their perceptions that are fit for the content of the lesson and it was found that social studies lesson mostly evokes the subject areas that they are taught in the students' minds. • It was determined that the students mostly reflected "People Places and Areas" and "Culture and Inheritance" among the learning fields, and these two fields are followed by "Production, Distribution and Consumption" field and "Efficient Citizenship" field. • Social studies lessons which were reflected in the students' drawings, were analyzed under the categories such as learning-teaching area, learning-teaching elements/features, method and techniques/activities, the role and attitudes of the teacher and the role and attitudes of the student. In this content, it is stated that mostly learning areas in the class, traditional desk order, teacher centered and expression focused methods and the student behaviors focused on listening were reflected in the students' drawings. • It is stated that the students' lesson expectations intended for a lesson in which activities and games are used, more entertaining and outdoor.
