Abstract (EN)

In this study, it was aimed to investigate the relationship between secondary school students' belief in solving mathematical problems and reading motivations; whether the variables belief in solving mathematical problems and reading motivation differentiate in terms of some variables; and whether there is a relationship between these two variables. In this study, correlational research method was used. Among the secondary schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education, which are located in the Akdeniz, Toroslar and Yenişehir borders of the Mersin districts, 5 schools determined by purposeful sampling method were included. The sample of the study consisted of 837 students who attended the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grades in the 2016-2017 academic year. According to the results of the analysis, there is a small but significant positive correlation between the students' level of reading motivations and belifs in solving mathematical problems.Accordingly, it can be said that as the motivation for reading increases, the beliefs of solving the mathematical problem will increase or the beliefs of solving the mathematical problem will decrease as the motivation for reading decreases. Likewise, very small positive and significant correlation was found between students' reading times and their belief in solving the math problemAccording to this, it can be said that as the reading time of the students increases, the beliefs in solving the mathematical problem will increase or the beliefs in solving the mathematical problem will decrease as the reading time decreases. Keywords: Mathematics belief, mathematics problem solving belief, reading motivation.
