Examining the relationship between teacher self efficacy perceptions and teacher leadership behaviours of middle school teachers

Education is one of the main elements in the development of the nations. Having a sustainable education system has a key role to become a stronger and more developed country. An education system can be sustainable by revising and diagnosing the elements included in the education system and also by developing the required processes. Teachers are among the most important factors in the education system affecting success. When considered in the human capital dimension, the investments and improvements to the teachers will be reflected in positive feedbacks at every stage of the education. It will be appropriate to prioritize the leadership skills in order to empower teachers leading the society and the students. It is also necessary to determine what qualifications are required to become a teacher leader. In addition, self-efficacy perception is an important fact for teachers as well as in all areas.From this point of view, the relationship between teacher self-efficacy perceptions and teacher leadership behaviours is a dimension to be examined. Examining the relationship between the teacher self-efficacy perception and teacher leadership behaviour, this research is a descriptive study in correlational survey model. For this purpose, the research was applied to 502 teachers working in 27 middle schools in Kastamonu province center and districts. In order to obtain the data, Turkish Version of the Teachers' Sense of Efficacy Scale and Teacher Leadership Scale were applied. In the analysis of the data, accuracy rate was accepted as 95% and SPSS 22 package program was used. Arithmetic mean, percentile, standard deviation, independent sample groups t test, one way analysis of variance, Pearson product moment correlation coefficient and multiple linear regression analysis were performed. As a result of the research, it has been determined that there is no significant difference between teacher self efficacy perception and teacher leadership according to gender, age, graduation status, professional seniority, term of office at the same school and branch. In additon, it has also been found out that there is a significant positive correlation between teacher self efficacy perceptions and the teacher leadership behaviours, and also teacher self efficacy perception is determined to be a significant positive predictor on teacher leadership.
