The analysing of folk literature texts in secondary school textbooks in terms of values education

In this study that Folk literature texts ,existing in Secondary school textbooks are analysed on the basis of value education, 29 textbooks taught from 2005-2006 academic year to 2018-2019 are examined. In this descriptive study , Document analysing and scanning techniques are used. In the study , MEB, Ders Destek, Eksen, Başak, Ez-De, Dörtel, Cem, Ada, Pasifik, FCM, Gizem, Evren, Doku, Koza, Enderun publishing Turkish Language textbooks are evaluated. Folk literatüre texts in textbooks are scanned in terms of these 27 values that are Tolerance, sensitivity, optimism, goodness, cultural heritage, hospitality, kindness, self-confidence, sharing, respect, greeting, love, responsibility, compassion, cleanliness, patriotism placing in MEB Values Education Directive. Additionally, 10 root values including justice, friendship, honesty, self-control, patience, respect, love, responsibility, patriotism, philanthropy are identified in order to eliminate the problems experiemced in practise and provide a unity among the course curriculas. In this study text are scanned considering these 10 values, too. The scanned books were grouped according to years and analysed as tables. The values determined by the researcher were concluded by referring to expert opinions. With reference to this, 318 values in total has been detected in analysed Secondary School Turkish Language textbooks. 120 texts in total belonging to folk literatüre were determined in examined 29 textbooks. These findinngs shows us that Folk Literature texts aren't sufficiently placed in textbooks. And, it has been detected that the most determined values are love (64), patriotism (44), friendship (23), courage-leadership (21), helpfulness (16) and respect (16). It was found that the text numbers and theme names in the textbooks showed differences according to years, and as a result of this , it was observed that there was a difference in the values found by years.
