Abstract (EN)

Turkish textbooks play an important role in teaching children's rights. With Turkish textbooks students find the opportunity to apply their rights by learning children's rights. Turkish textbooks prepared in this direction can be effective teaching tools for teaching children their mother language as well as giving children's rights education. The purpose of this research is to determine the level right of life, right of development, right of participation and protection granted to children in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child in literary texts, preparatory questions, in-class and extracurricular activities, evaluation questions and visual texts in Turkish textbooks taught in secondary school. The research is in document analysis model. İn this investigate, one of the qualitative research methods content analysis method was used. The data source of the study consists of four Turkish textbooks in 5, 6, 7 and 8th grade taught in secondary school. In the study, preparatory questions, literary texts, in-class and extracurricular activities, evaluation questions and visual texts in Turkish textbooks taught in secondary school were examined within the scope of children's rights, and the rights granted to children in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child were tried to be determined. Data analysis was made on frequency distributions and percentages and interpretation was done. As a result of this study, which examines the level of children's rights in Turkish textbooks taught in secondary school, the first striking finding is that the books contain more explanations about children's developmental and vital rights; statements about participation and protection rights are given less. One another important finding is that in the literary texts of the Turkish textbooks, the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child gives more information about the right to life, the right to development, the right to protection and the right to participation; it was concluded that lessons were given in the lesson activities, preparation questions, evaluation questions and visual texts proposed in Turkish textbooks. In addition, considering the development levels of children and their capacity to understand children's rights issues in Turkish textbooks, it is necessary to give more attention to children's rights issues when upper classes are attended in secondary school; it was observed that such a course was not followed. Keywords: children's rights, turkish textbooks, united nations convention on the rights of the child.
