Gender roles in middle school Turkish textbooks

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects and changes of gender awareness in the textbooks, which are the most important material of education, by examining the texts and pictures in the Turkish textbooks in the secondary school, the main and side characters, individuals, actions, spaces, objects, gender, and content analysis in order to determine the effects and changes of gender awareness The universe of the research is composed of Turkish courses and study books in the Antalya Provincial Directorate of National Education, allowing MEB and the training Board to be educated in secondary schools for the years 2015-2018. As a result of the research, the pictures in the books indicate that the boys and girls are shown with the most "children/children". When the findings about who adult men and women are shown are evaluated, the two groups are shown mostly with adults, but in proportion, men are seen more than women. Girls are shown by actions involving distant social relationships, while boys are shown by actions involving close social relationships. Adult women are active in the home and men are active outside the home. When we look at the places in which the boys and girls figures are shown, the girls were mostly shown in the home and work environment, and the boys were shown in the school and school environment, institutions and institutions. Adult women are mostly shown around home and home environment, school and school, while men are shown in outdoor and social life, institutions and institutions, business environment and uncertain places.
