Abstract (EN)
In this study, the effect of the use of cover crops on the population density of the harmful Planococcus citri Risso (Hemiptera: Pseudococcidae) and parasitoids and predators in citrus fruits was investigated; The flora of the citrus garden with vetch as a cover plant (Mowing) and control (Herbicide-treated parcel without plants) formed. The farmer has carried out the same agricultural practices throughout the year in all three parcels. As a result of the study, a high rate of mealybug populations was found in all three plots (Control, Vetch, Mowing). However, after the release of parasitoids and predators in the vetch parcel, there was a decrease in the mealybug density. According to the single-year data, it was determined that the density of parasitoids and predators increased in both plots where the mowing application of both the cover plants and the garden flora was increased, and in the control plot where no herbaceous plants were left under the trees, it was found to be almost non-existent. In line with these results, it was concluded that leaving the citrus orchard with grass by mowing or using a cover crop such as vetch has a positive effect on the parasitoid and predator populations and therefore it is effective in reducing the mealybug population.
