Abstract (EN)

Legends and Memorates are two intertwined genres that have a very important place in Turkish folk literature. The cultural memory of the society has always remained alive with the legends and memorates in the oral narrative tradition that has been going on for years and these vital traces have been passed on to the next generations. The written recording of these two elements of oral traditions, which started to lose their vitality in the memory of the society, and their quote to the next generations formed the basis of this study. 124 legends and memorates from Osmaniye and its districts were collected under twelve main titles, examined in terms of subject and motif features, and (T) was added to the head of the motifs not included in Stith Thompson's Motif-Index of Folk-Literature. Two of them are included in "myths about the creation and destruction of the world and the universe"; twelve of them are included in "legends about saints, shrines and visits", twenty-four of them are included in "legends about extraordinary beings"; twenty-four of them are included in "myths about plants, trees and animals"; seven of them are included in "myths about the transformation to stone and bird"; two of them are included in "legends about natural phenomena"; twenty of them are included in "legends about historical places and treasures"; seven of them are included in "legends associated with place names"; eighteen of them are included in "legends about mountains, lakes, caves, springs, fountains"; four of them are included in "legends about various signs"; two of them are included in "Legends about Lokman Hekim"; one of them is included in "legends about vehicles and equipment" sections.
