Abstract (EN)

Tunisia has gone under diverse stages in administrative area in the second half of XVI century after being dominated by Ottoman Empire. After being governed by military-pashas for an amount of time, Tunisia has later been governed by collateral lines and chieftains. The reasons such as this government method, being away from the centre, the imperialist strategies of European countries and the weakness of Ottoman Empire, has led to the weakening of Ottoman?s dominance on Tunisia. The weak state of Ottoman Empire in XIX century has encouraged European countries in increasing their attacks to Ottoman lands. European Countries had employed conciliatory strategies in sharing Ottoman territories. Invasion of Tunisia is an outcome of these strategies. France who has become a North African country after invading Algeria has been longing to posses this territory both to gain the trust of its Algeria Colony and to capture Tunisia which is strategically important between East and West Mediterranean. France who had an immense competition with Italy on the same cause Tunisia had been able to get the chance to realize its objectives with Berlin Congress in 1878 and had invaded Tunisia using the excuse of an unimportant dispute in Algeria-Tunisia border. Ottoman Empire and Italy have only been able to protest the incident. After dealing with the riots within Tunisia, France had employed its governing understanding in this country and had governed Tunisia until 1956.
