The prevalence of co-infections in cats infected with otodectes cynotis

Abstract (EN)

This study was conducted to determine the prevalence of Otodectes cynotis coinfections in cats in Antalya province. 50 cats of different breeds, age and sex were included in the study. In the cats diagnosed with Otodectes cynotis, bacterial identification and fungal cultures were performed and co-infections were determined and prevalence was calculated. In addition, antibiotic susceptibilities of the identified bacteria were determined. Candida spp. was isolated from 44%, Contaminant fungi from 32%, Aspergillus spp. from 24%, Malassezia pachydermatitis from 12%, Mucor spp. from 2% and yeast from 2% of the cats included in the study. Coagulase negative staphylococci were the most frequently isolated bacteria with a prevalence of 32%. Klebsiella pneumonia 16%, Pasteurella spp. 14%, Streptococcus spp. 14%, Streptococcus spp. 12%, Staphylococcus aureus, Corynebacterium spp. 12%, Escherichia coli 8%, Pseudeomonas aeroginosa, entorobacter and serratia species 6% each. Enterococcus species was the bacteria with the lowest prevalence and was isolated from 4% of the cats. Only 4% of the cats did not grow pathogenic microorganisms in one ear.
