An investigation of different measurement techniques used in automotive supply industry in terms of calibration methods

Nowadays, reliable, sensitive and verifying measurement processes are needed for measuring devices used in the automotive industry. The reliability of these measurements is performed possible by the correct calibration of the measuring devices. The traceability of the calibrated devices must be provided. Traceability is the process of the comparing measurement results of the control instruments used in the calibration process with the national standard. The calibration process is the comparison of the measurement results of the control instrument measured under certain conditions with the results obtained from the reference measuring device of known value. The measurement uncertainty is the evaluation of the measurement results with the probability calculations according to the specified measurement ranges. In this thesis study, firstly, the history of metrology which is called as measurement science was mentioned. Then, the calibration process and the quality, standardization and its structure, the terms used from the past to the present time and their explanations were discussed. Calibration methods of different measurement techniques used in automotive sub-industry were examined. In general, pressure, temperature and electrical calibration process of the measuring devices used in the industry have been performed. Also, the calibration process of the measurement devices with the measurement uncertainty calculations have been performed. The measurement results of the instruments used as reference were compared with the measurement results of the calibrated instruments at a specified tolerance range. As a result of this comparison, it was determined whether the calibration measurement result was appropriate or not.
