Abstract (EN)

The study was conducted involving 22 male and 38 female patients, with a mean age of 48.6±11.3 years, who were diagnosed with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) at Istanbul Fatih Public Hospital Union General Secretary Haseki Training and Research Hospital Nephrology Clinic between May 2014 and July 2014. The 2 aim of this study was respectively to investigate the effects of anthropometric measurements on renal functions and the effects of macronutrient consumption on anthropometric measurements. Patients' data including personal characteristics, biochemical parameters, anthropometric measurements and kidney volumes by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Total visseral adipose tissue (VAT) and total subcutaneous adipose tissue (SAT) of the abdominal compartment by MRI was used as a gold-standart measurement. The nutrients intakes of patients were estimated by the 24-h dietary records obtained on 3 consecutive days. Peripheral subcutaneous fat was evaluated by Durnin&Womersley. In the present study WHR was the most correlated anthropometric measurement with total kidney volume (r=0.275, p<0.05). Increase in WHR was associated with decrease in eGFR (r=-0.359, p<0.05) and increase in systolic blood pressure (r=0.512, p<0.05) and increase in creatinin (r=0.361, p<0.05). WC was negative correlated with eGFR (r=-0.271, p<0.05), correlated with systolic blood pressure (r=0.312, p<0.05). Higher percentage fat content of diet was associated with increase in BMI (r=0.297, p<0.05), hip circumference (r=0.297, p<0.05), SAT (r=0.347, p<0.05), fat mass (r=0.270, p<0.05) that's calculated by skinfold thicknesses.
