The effect of emotional intelligence on emotional labor in helping health personnel working in private hospital: The case of Giresun province

In recent years, there has been a significant increase in studies showing that the subject of emotional intelligence, which can also be defined as the ability to understand and manage emotions, is related to the subject of emotional labor, which can mean displaying the display rules of a business. However, although there are studies in different sectors in the literature, no studies have been found on the effect of emotional intelligence on emotional labor behaviors in private hospital assistant health personnel. This research aims to determine the effect of emotional intelligence on emotional labor behavior. For this purpose, emotional intelligence and emotional labor scales were applied to the assistant health personnel in a private hospital serving in Giresun province, and data were obtained. The Wong and Law emotional intelligence scale, which consists of sixteen statements and four sub-dimensions to measure the level of emotional intelligence, and Diefendorff et al. Emotional labor scale developed by (2005) was used. After the regression analysis, the effect of emotional intelligence sub-dimensions on surface acting behavior was examined in the first stage. F sig. since the value of (p = 0.546) was above 0.05, it was concluded that none of the sub-dimensions of emotional intelligence were associated with surface acting, one of the emotional labor sub-dimensions. In the second stage, regression analysis was performed regarding the sub-dimensions of the emotional intelligence scale and the deep acting dimension of the emotional labor scale. F sig. since it has a value (p = 0.001), it was concluded that at least one of the sub-dimensions of emotional intelligence affects deep acting. It was concluded that the dimension of "evaluating the emotions of others", which is one of the sub-dimensions of emotional intelligence, had a statistically significant effect (p = 0.017) on deep acting, and the other dimensions had no effect. In the third stage, the regression analysis of the sub-dimensions of the emotional intelligence scale and the natural emotions dimension of the emotional labor scale was performed. Since its value (p = 0.000), it was concluded that at least one of the sub-dimensions of emotional intelligence affected natural emotions. It was concluded that the "use of emotions" dimension, one of the sub-dimensions of emotional intelligence, had a statistically significant effect (p = 0.015) on natural emotions, whereas the other dimensions had no effect.
