The proposal of a purpose system for an immovable cultural property without interfering with the original architectural dimensions: The Historical Kurkcu Han sample

Construction technology of 21th century has provided to save time, workmanship quality and possibility to build of diffrent designs. Architectural style of todays are built with 21th century technology and workmanship differences between this style and 'the buildings that will belong to technology of next century which will be built with improved technology will be distinguished. Just as, differences that are between traditional architecture and architectural style of 21th century, can be distinguished. However, the traditional architectural structures constructed with the technology that the era they belonged to are always more valuable than the architectural structures made with today's advanced technology. Because, when the conditions of the construction of the traditional building are evaluated; steps which are of finding material, logistics, processing and implementing, arouse curiosity about how they built issuses. Each of the traditional structures gives us information about the methods of workmanship and the solutions used, therefore, buildings that can be construct with less developed technologies and possibilities, are like an evidence. Civil architecture is a basic expression of community culture. One hand while it shows interrelation with its region, at the other hand it is important in respect to reflect of diversity of world culture (Icomos, 1999). For these reasons, restoration is important in order to protect traditional architecture and to deliver the culture of the era when was built and the construction technical knowladge for future generations. Restoration can be done by maintenance-repair of the structure or by integrating the missing parts and also by providing different functions. While functioning to preserve historic structures, it is not necessary for the architecture of the building to be in accordance with the activity planned, or changing its form, the function can be designed in accordance with architectural measure. The purpose is not just to create activity place or conserve a historical building. The purpose should conserve by keeping alive and reusing of a historic building with integrated to itself by the way of interpreted again of an activity. Where additional usage area is needed; to collaborate with related professional disciplines, such as modern technology, industrial design, art history, interior architecture, landscape architecture, will provide us the additional area or concept requirement form as demontable. Under this thesis study, the proposal of a purpose system will be made for historical building and evaluated on the Kürkçü Han sample without interfering with the original architectural dimensions. The reason for the selection of Kürkçü Han is; It is the only remaining inn in Istanbul since the 15th century (Güran, 1978:83-84).
