Abstract (EN)
A typical feature is the uniform chloritic appearance of sulfur deficiency in the plant, which significantly affects plant growth and stops growth. With sulfur deficiency, the plant becomes stunted and acquires a thin-bodied and bushy appearance. These deficiency symptoms are similar to nitrogen deficiency in many plants, and therefore misinterpretations can be made in explaining the causes of this problem. However, in case of deficiency, sulfur cannot be transported from the old plant parts to the young parts in the plant structure, as in nitrogen, so the deficiency symptoms are first seen on the youngest leaves. Sulfur deficiency in cruciferous plants such as cabbage and canola/rapeseed plants primarily causes a reddish color on the undersides of their leaves.
