Ercan ATAER Doc.Dr. Orhan BÜYÜKALACA In this study, the use of radiant heating and cooling systems with solar aided heat pumps has been investigated. The new method of floor heating and ceiling cooling used for conditioning of buildings is based on radiation heat transfer to the space. Because of this reason, indoor design temperatures are very moderate; for example higher than conventional systems in cooling. Comfort conditions may be provided as the heating and colling load of the space decreases. Performans of the heat pumps that operates with cooling cycles use heat as input energy is very low and they requires auxilary heater. However they have the advantage of using the cheapest and the clearest energy source: solar energy. Using the advantages of low energy demand and moderate fluid temperature requirement of radiant systems, these two systems are combined and the disadvantage of sorption heat pump is tried to be eliminated. At the beginning of this study, a computer program that calculates heating and cooling load of buildings by using the CLTD method proposed by ASHRAE has been developed. In the second stage, another computer program that designs the radiant system that meets the load by using the load outputs of the previous program, has been prepared. An absorption heat pump that provides cooled water required by ceiling cooling radiant system has been simulated in the last stage. The cooling and heating performans coefficients of heat pump that assumed to be operated with R21- DMF pair are calculated and the effects of system parameters on this coefficients are observed. As the result, especially in summer months and south of our country, the usage of solar aided heat pumps with radiant ceiling cooling systems is proposed as an economic solution to the energy problems.
