Abstract (EN)
Fingerprint recognition systems are successfully being used for identifying the criminals, access control, user's entrance to computer, taking attendance and similar applications.There are studies in literature which prove the existence of the relationship between fingerprint and gender. Also in this study, the relationship between the fingerprint and gender are examined on the basis of fingerprint properties on the specific region.In this thesis, although there is no information about a person's gender information, investigating only the fingerprint information, gender of a person can be achieved, the average fingerprint ridge density of our country have been calculated for the first time and using these information, artificial neural network based an automatic gender recognition system from the person?s fingerprint have been successfully developed for the first time. Success of the developed system is achieved based on ten-fold cross-validation approach, the system's average performance is determined as %78.It is expected that the results obtained in this thesis will help to do different studies from fingerprint in future.
