Abstract (EN)

In this study, a cognitive intervention program based on PASS Theory (Planning, Attention, Simultaneous Cognitive Processes and Successive Cognitive Processes) was developed for 3rd grade students who have difficulties in basic academic skills. Then, the cognitive intervention program was applied to 3rd grade students who had difficulty in basic academic skills and its effects on the students' cognitive processing areas and basic academic skills were examined. Pretest-posttest control group experimental design and appropriate sampling method were used in the study. This study was conducted with 18 students, 9 in the experimental group and 9 in the control group, selected from 3rd grade students who had difficulty in basic academic skills. A cognitive intervention program structured as 24 sessions was applied to the experimental group. No program was applied to the students in the control group. The Cognitive Assessment System (CAS) standardized by Ergin (2003) and the Literacy Assessment Battery (OYAB) created by Ergul et al. (2021) were applied to the experimental and control groups as pre-test and post-test. The data obtained in the study were analyzed using the Dependent Samples T-Test and Independent Samples T-Test. The results were analyzed and evaluated with the SPSS 26-Statistics Program for Social Sciences. The experimental group to which the developed PASS Cognitive Intervention Program was applied; CAS Attention, Successive Processing scales and Total CAS score as well as OYAB Reading, Reading Comprehension, Writing and OYAB Total scores were found to be significantly higher. When the post-test scores of the control and experimental groups were compared, it was determined that Planning, Attention, Successive Cognitive Processing scores and CAS total score, as well as OYAB Reading, Writing and Total OYAB scores were significantly higher in favor of the experimental group. The research results were discussed in accordance with the literature and suggestions were presented.
