Abstract (EN)

Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is the most prevalent type of cancer in children. After chemotherapy, minimal residual disease (MRD) is still the most important indicator of clinical results and relapse. Multidrug resistance is the main obstacle to successful treatment. Multidrug resistance associated protein 1(MRP-1) may play a key role in throwing the chemical drug out of cells which lead to therapy resistance. The goal of this study is to detect protein MRP-1 on cells from the bone marrow of children with B-cell ALL, and to determinate the value of MRP-1 as a prognostic factor in comparison with other factors such as DNA index (DI) and MRD. Bone marrow samples were obtained from children who are diagnosed as B-ALL (n=20). The expressions of MRP-1 and DI were determined using flow cytometry at diagnosis. On the 15th day of treatment, MRD in the bone marrow was detected also by flow cytometry. There was no statistically significant difference of MRP-1 expression between risk groups like other prognostic factor. Protein level of MRP-1 expression measured seemed to have no prognostic importance. Utilization of MRP-1 as predictive factor may not provide information on the B-ALL prognosis. Our results can help to better understand the nature of MRP-1 in B-ALL patients.
