'ki' sentences, conditional clauses and nested compound sentences in the novel called Attila by Peyami Safa

Abstract (EN)
This present study has been done by examining the compound sentence subject in Turkish on the novel called Attila by Peyami Safa. First of all, what the sentence is, on which common ground the sentence related explanations meet have been presented based on sentence definitions of linguists; after the sentence concept is explained, the subject of compound sentence forming the basis of the present study has been discussed thoroughly by mentioning the difference between simple sentence and compound sentence. Linguists' differences of opinion about the compound sentence subject have been included and one of the biggest debates about this subject, whether the sentences containing a verbal shall be regarded as a compound sentence has been emphasized. Compound sentence classifications of various linguists have been analyzed; the prominent different approaches in the mentioned classifications have been examined. In the present study having been carried out based on the classification "ki sentences, conditional compound sentence and nested compound sentence", the compound sentences in the novel called Attila by Peyami Safa, one of the leading writers of the Turkish literature, have been determined and grouped, and elements of those sentences have been shown. As a result of the study done, 431 compound sentences have been detected in the novel Attila and it has been observed that 229 of them are the nested compound sentences, 143 of them are the 'ki' sentences and 59 of them are the conditional clauses.
