Abstract (EN)
The term CBRN, which is used with the initials of the words Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear, is used to indicate harmful and dangerous situations for the environment and human beings, which are caused by the deliberate or accidental use of the said substances. Pesticides constitute a heterogeneous group of chemicals specifically designed for the control of plant pests, weeds or plant diseases and have the potential to be used as CBRN agents. For this reason, it is important to determine the possible negative effects of pesticides in terms of revealing the measures that can be taken against chemical hazards that may arise in the future. The aim of the research carried out in this context is to determine the possible toxic effects of Phosmet, a widely used pesticide, with acute and chronic toxicity experiments on a model organism, Daphnia magna. In the study, survival experiments were performed in 6-well plates at 7 different concentrations (0,01; 0,1; 1,10; 25; 50; 100 μM) in 3 replicates. According to the results obtained, a statistically significant mortality was determined at 25 µM and above phosmet concentrations after 24 hours of exposure. However, significant mortality was found at 1 and 10 µM phosmet concentrations at 48 hours of exposure, and all organisms died at 50 and 100 µM phosmet concentrations. On the other hand, chronic toxicity experiments were carried out in two stages, lifespan and reproduction, and organisms were exposed to 0,01 and 0,1 μM Phosmet concentrations in the experiments. Lifespan experiments were continued until all living things died. According to the results obtained, it was determined that Phosmet did not have a negative effect on the lifespan of Daphnia magna, and it was determined that 0,1 μM Phosmet concentration in breeding experiments gave more offspring compared to the control group. As a result, it has been determined that Phosmet has negative effects on Daphnia magna depending on the concentration. Therefore, further analysis of Phosmet and careful monitoring of its use and levels in the environment are required to determine its safety and toxicity levels.
