Abstract (EN)

In the first period of the 21st century in which we are experiencing the computer age, computer has become a great need in the areas like production, communication and health. One of the areas the computer shows itself as a prerequsite means is the field of graphic design which serves the presentation and advertisement areas.Computer has been used in graphic design for a long time. It can be said that computer has been serving graphic design for over twenty years. Software companies have presented a lot of software programmes to help in the subject of design on computer. Photoshop is one these. Photoshop is a programme which is densely used in print and web designs. We can say that photoshop is being used in all design companies all over the world. Photoshop programme is also widely used in Turkey in the design sector. Graphic designers are mostly educated at the Faculties of Fine Arts in Turkey. At the same time the graduates of Arts who have deserved to be teachers but haven?t been appointed yet also prefer graphic design as an alteranative sector. This condition leads those students to learn design programmes. However, it is not possible to say that this programme takes enough place in the education curricula. The instructors who are engaged in Graphic art classes have necessary information background. But their knowledge of graphic design related to their own field is not enough.By this study, in order to fill this gap, we aim to teach the students the photoshop through lessons prepared on CDs. We tried to evaluate if photoshop could be taught with the help of CVDs on computers with no need to instructors. We determined some substitute objectives in line with this general aim.In this study we used quantitive research and experimental method. The overall field of the study is based on 2nd grade Graphic students of Department of Arts in Turkey. The reserch field is based on the Arts Department of Gazi University and the study group consisted of 2nd grade Graphic students of Department of Art Teacher of Gazi University. We started the study with two groups: one was an experimental group and the other was a control group. We showed the photoshop programme to the experimental group with CD on BDE. We tried to teach the photoshop to the control group through traditional method. We determined a six-week tuition period. We made a 36 hour practice with a four hour a week programme. Later on, we handed in the students a written interwiev form prepared with reference to our substitute objectives and got their replies. We made the responses of the students into a table via exell programme. We took the percentages according to the frequencies and we reached some findings through these percentages. With reference to data we had in findings and interpretation part of the interwiev we concluded that the tuition with CD on BDE has not been efficient enough and the students have not been able to learn without an instructor as we had assumed to be. However, we have been convinced that the students must be subject to long term tuition programmes with every student supported with a single computer.
