Abstract (EN)
Background and Aim: This study aims to examine the recreational benefits, well-being levels, and leisure time motivations of individuals who participate in pilates exercises. As physical inactivity and stress have become widespread problems in modern life, pilates has gained importance as a holistic practice that contributes to both physical and psychological well-being. Most participants reported performing pilates two to three times per week, mainly in studio environments, with sessions lasting approximately 50 minutes. The most common motivation for engaging in pilates was improving physical health, followed by mental relaxation and posture correction. Material and Methods: A quantitative research design was employed. The sample consisted of 329 individuals practicing pilates. Data were collected through standardized instruments, including the Recreational Benefit Scale, the Well-Being Scale, and the Leisure Time Motivation Scale. Demographic information was also analyzed. Results: Findings showed that participants perceived high levels of recreational benefits. Among the subdimensions, social benefit had the highest mean scores, highlighting the social interaction aspect of pilates. Psychological benefits were also prominent, whereas perceived physical benefits were comparatively lower. Well-being levels significantly varied by age, marital status, education, frequency of participation, and exercise environment. Participants who exercised in studios reported higher well-being levels compared to those practicing at home. In terms of leisure motivation, "identified regulation" and "knowledge and accomplishment" subdimensions were the most pronounced, while amotivation levels were low. Conclusion: Pilates serves as a multidimensional recreational activity that promotes physical, psychological, and social well-being. Regular participation in structured and social environments further enhances perceived benefits and internal motivation. The results underscore the importance of pilates as a valuable recreational practice beyond its physical contributions. Keywords: Pilates, recreational benefit, well-being, leisure motivation, free time.
