The effect of synthesia programme on the performance of students in piano education: The case of Kahramanmaraş-Nurhak district

Synthesia is a program that aims to make piano education fun and easy on devices such as Ipads, tablets, computers using piano roll writing system. There are seven language options. It can read MIDI files that are created and included within so that courses may be constructed. Besides the piano roll system, it also offers a note writing system as visual reading.It has so far reached many users who are interested in music and attracted the attention of newcomers. In this study, the objective is to compare piano education using Synthesia program and piano education through classical system. Analyzing the performance evaluation scales by conducting a descriptive literature review and evaluation scales were formed by taking expert opinions in order to be able to evaluate the intermediate observation form and final test results of the experimental part. By doing this, the scope validity of the scale was achieved by getting expert opinions. During the fourth and eighth weeks of the training, videos were taken for the interim observation and these videos were assessed by 2 experts trained in the piano field and the observation were filed. Afterwards, video recordings were made for the final test measurements in the twelfth week of the training and these records were seen and rated by 5 trainers specialized in the piano field. In the study, the difference between the experimental group getting the piano education with Synthesia Program and the control group receiving the classical method piano education was introduced by using the nonparametric Mann-Whitney U test. The research indicates thet there was no significant difference between the final test scores of the experimental and control group students in terms of the ability to play the piano.
