Abstract (EN)
In this study, the biology and damage caused by the box tree moth (Cydalima perspectalis) (Walker, 1859) were investigated in natural boxwood (Buxus sempervirens L.) habitats located in the Kastamonu region, particularly in various areas of the Azdavay and Pınarbaşı districts. The pest was first recorded in Türkiye in 2011, and it has been observed in the Kastamonu region since 2018. Observations revealed that the box tree moth has caused significant damage to boxwood stands in the region, particularly leading to the drying out of natural boxwood individuals. The pest feeds on boxwood leaves during its larval stage, which not only disrupts the aesthetic appearance but also, in severe cases, results in plant mortality. However, in cases where no direct damage occurs to the cambium layer, complete desiccation of the plant may be avoided. The biological stages of the pest were monitored both in natural conditions and under laboratory settings. For this purpose, larvae collected from the field were brought to the laboratory and placed in feeding containers for observation. Based on the examinations, it was determined that C. perspectalis completes two generations per year in the Kastamonu region. In addition, the anatomical effects of the pest on boxwood were also evaluated.
