Polymer supported carbene complexes and their properties

Scientific interest in JV-heterocarbenes transition metal copmplexes due to their catalytic activity remains very high. These complexes are mainly homogeneous catalysts bearing difficulty of the separation from the reaction mixture. For this reason, considerable attention has ben directed toward the attachment of carbene complexes to insoluble support in an attempt to combine the practical advantages of a heteregeneous catalyst with the efficiency of a homogeneous system. In this thesis, novel carbene complexes having catalytic activity have been prepared and immobilized. For this reason novel three enetetramine (2a-c) and novel four carbene complexes derived from them have been prepared and characterized. However, the work on the complex 2c resulted in polymeric materials. Olefin 2a with benzyl group has been interacted with [RuCİ2(/?-cymene)]2 and [RuCİ2(HMB)]2 and complexes 3 and 4 have been obtained. When olefin 2b was used to react with [RuCİ2(p-cymene)]2, /?-cymene has left the ruthenium metal, and it was observed that 2,4,6-trimethylbenzyl group was coordinated to the metal. When the same olefine was interacted with [RuCl2(HMB)]2, the complex 6 was formed. Complex 4 was obtained by heating the complex 6 up to 140 °C where HMB(hexamethylbenzene) group has left the metal.
