Definition of the usage level of portfolio assessment method in primay- first step and second period depending on opinion of teacher parents and student: Sample of Çanakkale

The development level of countries is paralel with the education system?s style both powerful and strong. Education and learning is a continuing process in our life. The quality of education supplied to individuals has to be revealed with the assessment and evaluation activities. Our actual education systems which take into account humanistic values are formed under the leadership of the constructivist theory of education. And so; utilization rate of the ?Portfolio Assessment Method? (PAM) which is the most popular assessment and evaluation in these days, is increasing day by day.This research has been performed in order to define the usage of Portfolio Assessment Method in primary-first step and second period relating with Teacher- Student ? Parents and Students? opinion. ( Sample of Çanakkale )329 teachers, 490 students and 74 students? parents participated in our research. It is done across the province of Çanakkale and also the sections were taken from whole districts included in the provincial center. Both qualitative and quantitative research methods are used in our research.After evaluating the collected data; it is inferred that ?PAM? is highly applied in provincial boundaries of Çanakkale but teachers need in-service training for that task. With the help of ?PAM?; students? responsibilities, social characteristics, searching- investigating abilities, the communication between student-teacher and parents are improved, and also PAM is a major factor to make students notice their strong and weak side, observe students? development concretely. Although students and parents indicated they were pleased with the PAM, it?s concluded that in the process parents and students need to be systematically informed by the teachers relevant with the task.
