Abstract (EN)

In this study, the approach of artists to textile materials, sewing and its techniques was examined. Especially since the beginning of the 20th century, the use of non-art techniques and materials in the field of art has started to increase accordingly new forms of art and expression have emerged. While textile materials and textile based techniques were considered as a sub-branch of traditional art in the 1950s, they have found a place in textile art as a part of postmodernism and modern art since the 1980s. Textile materials and sewing techniques are used for joining and decoration in various craft fields. The approach of artists working in different disciplines to these techniques has been influenced by their structural and aesthetic richness. Sewing and its techniques have gained new meanings and functions with their use as a means of artistic production. In terms of their visual and functional meanings; metaphor, semiotics, manipulation technique, experimental technique, they have been reshaped in the hands of artists and have gone beyond being a means of production. Textile materials and sewing techniques continue to exist at the intersection of art and craft by gaining an interdisciplinary meaning in terms of its use as an unlimited material and technique for artists and designers. There is a sensory and emotional synchrony in which the hand, eye and imagination work together in the creation process. While color, form and texture constitute the aesthetic characteristics of textiles, they also create effects on human perception and memory. xvi Garments also express different meanings other than the purpose of coverage. The use of garments for different purposes such as self-expression and attracting attention for individuals is one of the effects of the postmodern period. Especially in the details of designing garments, fashion and plastic arts interact. This situation supports the collaborative work of art and fashion fields in designing garments. In this study, a collection of 10 textile surface works and 10 garment designs were prepared using stitching and its techniques. In the collection works, stitching and its techniques were used not only for joining but also for creating effects like color, movement and dimension on the surfaces
