Examining the symptoms of criminal behavior using the semiotic analysis method: The Godfather movie analysis (1972)

Abstract (EN)

The cause-effect relationships of crime symptoms, the formation of the crime, the dynamics that create the crime were examined by analyzing the characters and scenes in the movie The Godfather (1972) and using the "Semiotic Analysis" method through the movie. Semiotic analysis has begun as a result of a mental process that goes from concrete to abstract with the human need for completion and meaning. We see that the data are likened to dream interpretations in terms of the relationship between psychoanalysis and cinema when we consider the psychic device as a film device, which Freud calls the secondary processes in the analysis of Dream Interpretations, in the context of cinematic signs and Umberto Eco's "Open Work Idea", an indication of how the author, reader and text's intention interacts is demonstrated during the presentation of the film as a religious text. When we look at the studies on the characters in the movie, they resemble phenomenon stories that are similar to case analysis. (Terbaş,2013, Tuğra,2017). The Godfather (1972) movie is like a simulation of where "Power Poisoning" can go through the indicators in the movie scenes. In the film, the process of the family's transformation into a criminal machine that disrupts the social order, along with its role of shaping the individual, making laws and protecting individuals both individually and socially, is examined in terms of the symptoms of criminal behavior.
