Appropriation and its practices in postmodernism and post-1970 painting

Abstract (EN)

In this study, Appropriation, which is one of the Postmodern art practices, has been discussed within the theoretical and artistic framework of the period from Modernism to Postmodernism, and described by exemplifying through works. In the first part, considering the necessity of understanding modernism in order to understand postmodernism, which Appropriation emerged from, the general characteristics of modernism and modern art have been examined within the context of their historical perspective. In the second part, Postmodernism has been discussed within the scope of the period after modernism, and conceptually evaluated in this context. In the third and fourth part, postmodern art, artists and their works have been examined with their general characteristic traits. In an attempt to understand the practice of appropriation, the characteristics of postmodern art strategies have been discussed. By focusing on appropriation in terms of postmodern painting art, artists and their works have been investigated and explained via examples.
