Investigation of Angiotensin II Type 2 Receptor Gene A1675G and Interleukin 4 Gene -590 (C>T) Polymorphisms and Genotype Distribution in Preeclampsia and Normal PregnanciesPreeclampsia, specific to human pregnancies, is a serious disorder which occurs approximately in 3-5% of all pregnancies. It is a complex disorder, in which immune and genetic factors also take part. Preeclampsia is particularly diagnosed with hypertension and proteinuria. The genes, which function in the biological pathways in the physiology of pregnancy, are thought to have several roles in the genetics of preeclampsia. Although there have been a great deal of genetic studies, there is not sufficient data available to solve the riddle of the genetic origins of preeclampsia.In this study, 131 preeclamptic and 86 normotensive pregnant women were investigated in terms of the relationship between preeclampsia and angiotensin II type 2 receptor gene (AT2-R) A1675G / interleukin 4 (IL-4) Gene -590 (C>T) polymorphisms. Furthermore, the distribution of genotype and allele frequencies related to these polymorphisms in normal and preeclamptic women were also evaluated. According to our results, there was not significant difference with respect to genotype and allel frequencies between preeclamptic and normotensive pregnant women. As for AT2-R gene 1675 polymorphism A allel was found significantly higher in preeclamptic women than normotensive pregnant women (p=0.033). When AA+AG genotype frequencies were compared to GG genotype frequency; GG genotype was found to be 78.5% in the preeclamptic group and, 89.5% in normotensive group. There was a significant difference in terms of these genotypes between preeclamptic and normotensive pregnant women (p=0.034). As for IL-4 gene -590 polymorphism, there was not significant difference in terms of genotype (p=0.456) and allele (p=0.310) frequencies.In conclusion, broader sample size, different genes and their polymorphisms that could be related to preeclampsia should also be investigated in future studies.Key Words: Preeclampsia, Angiotensin II Type 2 Receptor Gene, Interleukin 4 Gene, Polymorphism
