Prof. Dr. Hamdi Döndüren's work titled Ahkâmu'l-Kur'ân and his approach to Qur'anic exegesis

The Qur'an is a book that has preserved its relevance from the time of its revelation to the present day, committed to memory and contemplated in terms of its meanings. Numerous works of exegesis (tafsir) have been authored to explore the meanings encompassed within its verses. Ahkāmu'l-Qur'ān, the tafsir by Hamdi Döndüren, which constitutes the subject of this thesis, is one of the notable contemporary works in this field. This study consists of an introduction, three main chapters, and a conclusion. The introduction outlines the aim, significance, and necessity of the research. The first chapter discusses the life of Hamdi Döndüren, his written works, scholarly articles, and his students. In the second chapter, a general introduction to ahkām tafsirs (tafsirs focusing on legal rulings) is provided. This is followed by an analytical study of the narrative (riwāyah) and rational (dirāyah) aspects of Ahkāmu'l-Qur'ān, supported with examples and explanations from the work itself. The third chapter, considering the recent date of its composition, examines in detail how Ahkāmu'l-Qur'ān addresses contemporary issues. It also compares these interpretations with earlier commentaries on the same topics, thereby highlighting the distinctive features of modern tafsir literature in comparison to classical works.
