Project management in the era of ai: Review and analysis

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is expected to boost the performance of certain professions, while potentially destroying a few of them. Project Management (PM), as a profession, will not be exempt from this trend, thus it's worth speculating on what implications AI may have on the field in the future. This study aims to contribute to the PM domain from three perspectives, First of all; this study reviews the domain with the integrative literature review technique, which is a novel literature review technique. Secondly, this study explores the effects of AI on PM as a profession from a bibliometric analysis perspective. Lastly, this study maps the possible evolution of the PM domain. A map of the evolution of the domain is crucial for decision-makers since it is vital in terms of efficiency and organizational purposes. From this perspective, policy implications of AI-augmented PM on different levels are analyzed, in terms of business and managers, and its implications at the national level. The findings demonstrated that AI will become an integral element of future PM practice and will have an immediate impact on the PM profession. It is anticipated that while AI is not likely to replace human-driven project management, it will have a significant impact on cost, scheduling, and risk management, according to the literature.
