Abstract (EN)
The aim of the present study were to determine effect of weight loss on some biochemical parameters and anthropometric measurements in prolactinomas patients and to evaluate the effectiveness of applied to weight loss diet on metabolic profile in addition to medical treatment. The study was conducted at Baskent University Hospital of Endocrinology and Metabolic Diseases between 2014 September and 2015 August on newly diagnosed with overweight or obese 22 microprolactinomas women aged between 20-64 years old. Eleven of 22 patients randomly selected from study group, the remaining 11 patients constituted the control group. Weight loss diets which aims to losing at least 5% of initial body weight, have been planned and applied for 3 months. Both of groups' body analysis, anthropometric and biochemical measurements were made at the beginning of the study and end of the 3 months. While the mean of body weight of individuals at the begining of this study in study group was 85.5 ± 17:34 kg, the measurements was found 78.0 ± 15.94 kg after 3 months period (p<0.05). The mean body weight of the control group showed no statistically significant differences (p>0.05). Body fat percentage difference was statistically significant in the study group (p <0.05). In both of groups, the difference of mean serum prolactin levels were statistically significant (p<0.05). Compared to the first measurements between groups, there was no statistically significant results (p>0.05); there was a significant difference in the mean serum prolactin levels was found between last measurements (p<0.05). Serum TSH levels decreased from 2.0±0.70 µIU/L to 1.5±0.62 µIU/L in study group (p <0.05). There was no difference in serum TSH levels in control groups. There was a significant decrease in mean serum leptin levels from 16.1±8.86 ng/dL to 9.7±5.79 ng/dL in study groups. There was no statistically significant difference in serum leptin levels in control groups. Serum triglyceride levels decreased from 123.1±50.10 mg/dL to 95.1±42.45 mg/dL in study group (p<0.05). In both groups there were significant decreases in mean serum total cholesterol levels (p<0.05). There were no statistically significant correlations between serum leptin and prolactin levels in both groups (p>0.05). In both groups there was a positive no statistically significant correlations between waist circumference and HOMA-IR values (p<0.05); there was a positive and significant correlations between serum leptin levels, HOMA-IR values and fasting insulin levels in control groups (p<0.05). There was a negative and significant correlation between serum HDL-cholesterol and TSH levels (p<0.05). As a conclusion, we observed, in addition to medical teratment, to apply weight loss diets improves hyperprolactinemia more quickly and the reduction in body weight makes positive effects on the metabolic profiles of patients.
