The effect of implementing integrated encounter group with psychodrama methods on co-dependency

The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of a integrated encounter group practice with psychodrama methods at co-dependency of girls undergraduate students. The study is an quasi-experimental study based on the pre-test-post-test model with experimental and control group. A total of 28 participants, 14 students in the experimental group and 14 students in the experimental group, participated in the study. As part of this study, Composite Codependency Scaledeveloped by Marks and et.al (2012) was adapted into Turkish. The dependent variable of the study were undergraduate students' codependency levels. The undergraduate students' codependency levels were evaluated by Composite Codependency Scale which was adapted by the researcher. Prior to the study practices, Composite Codependency Scale was implemented the participants in the experimental and control groups. Following the pre-tests, integrated encounter group practice with psychodrama methods consisted of 14 session wasapplied to 11 girl students in the experimental group. No procedure was applied to the control group. Post –test measures were carried out the end of practices with experimental group while monitoring measures were carried out two months after termination of the sessions. Two-way ANOVA for repeated measures was used in order to test the effectiveness of the experimental process. Analysis yielded that there was no significant difference with regard to interpersonal control while there was a significant difference between pre-test and post-test scores of the experimental group with regard to co-dependency, self sacrifice and emotional suppression. As a result, integrated encounter group practice with psychodrama methods was found to be effective at co-dependency, self sacrifice and emotional suppression excluding interpersonal control.
