Investigation of serum chemerin, fibronectin and SHBG levels and comparison of clinical parameters in patients with psoriasis vulgaris

The pathogenesis of psoriasis is not absolutely known. It isthought to be an autoimmune and inflammatory disease, which is characterized bykeratinocyte proliferation through T cells. Genetic and enviromental factors such astrauma, stress, infections, and drugs may act a role in pathogenesis of psoriasis.In our study, levels of serum chemerin, fibronectin, sex hormon binding globulin(SHBG) of patients with chronic plaque type psoriasis vulgaris were compared withhealthy controls. Also roles of these parameters in ethiopatogenesis of psoriasis andrelations between these parameters and clinical parameters such as duration ofdisease, body mass index and existance of arthritis were evaluated.Fourty three patients with chronic plaque type psoriasis patients and 37 healthycontrols, compatible with age, sex and body mass index (BMI) were involved in ourstudy. For all patients age, sex, duration of the disease, BMI, PASI values andexistence of arthritis were recorded. Serum chemerin, fibronectin and SHBG valueswere compared.Although chemerin values were significiantly higher in patients compared withcontrols, there was no correlation between chemerin values and PASI, BMI, durationof the disease. No differences were found about fibronectin and SHBG valuesbetween patients and control group. No differences were found about chemerin,fibronectin and SHBG values between patients with and without arthritis.In conclusion, it has been thougt that chemerin may play a role in chronicinflamation in psoriasis, but we couldt find a relationship between severity of thedisease and arthritis. Meanwhile, according to our study there was no relationshipbetween the levels of SHBG, fibronectin levels and pathogenesis, severity of diseaseand psoriatic arthritis.Key Words: Psoriasis, chemerin, fibronectin, SHBG
