Abstract (EN)
Verbs are one of the two fundamental elements that constitute the vocabulary of a language. In linguistics, the study and classification of verbs have traditionally been approached from a structural perspective. However, since the mid-20th century, linguists have also begun focusing on the semantic and thematic classification of verbs alongside structural analysis. In Türkiye, particularly since the early 2000s, there has been a growing emphasis on semantic and thematic classifications. This study aims to contribute to the understanding of both an author's use of verbs and the broader verbal lexicon of our language. By thematically analyzing the verbs found in 13 short story collections and one novel by Rasim Özdenören, one of the masters of essays and short stories in our literature, we seek to highlight the verb usage within his works. All the verbs found in Özdenören's 14 works were thoroughly analyzed. For each identified verb, its contextual meaning and an example sentence were provided, with the verbs listed in alphabetical order. The meanings of the verbs were sourced from the TDK Contemporary Turkish Dictionary; for those not found in the dictionary, meanings were derived from context. After each verb, the code of the work is indicated, along with the page and line number of the example sentence in which the verb appears. Generally, the first sentence in which the verb occurs is presented as the example sentence. If the verb is used again with the same meaning, the work's code, page, and line number are noted once more. Following this process, the verbs were thematically classified under 10 main headings: 1. Action Verbs, 2. Physical State Verbs, 3. Verbs of Speech/Communication, 4. Mental and Spiritual Verbs, 5. Verbs of Existence, 6. Verbs of Change/Transformation, 7. Verbs Related to Nature/Natural Phenomena, 8. Verbs Relating to Non-Human Creatures, 9. Voice Verbs, 10. Verbs Related to Time In the scanned works 3891 different verbs were identified, and it is seen that a total of 44822 times verbs were used. This study is composed of four chapters. The first chapter covers Rasim Özdenören's Life, Artistic Vision, and Works; the second chapter focuses on studies of verbs and the thematic classification of verbs in vocabulary; the third chapter presents the analysis, where the thematic classification of verbs is conducted; and the fourth chapter includes the indexes (thematic classification index, general index, frequency index).
