Abstract (EN)
THE EFFECT OF THE USE OF PORCİNE DERMAL COLLAGEN ON FORMATİON OF SEROMA AFTER MASTECTOMY AND AXİLLARY DİSSECTİON İN RATSIntroduction and Purpose: Seroma occurs as a result of collecting lymphovascular liquid into the dead space forming after tissue excision or dissection. It is the most common complication after breast cancer surgery. It can cause many problems such as wound infection, delay of cancer treatment and increase of hospitalization time. There is no consensus on the mechanism of Seroma pathogenesis and its prevention.Collagen is the common component of extracellular matrix in many developed species. Different components of extracellular matrix come into prominence in different stages of wound healing.Porcine Dermal Collagen is a non-allergic, nontoxic material that does not cause foreign body tissue reaction. It is structurally similar to human dermis and produced from acellular pig matrix. In this study, we aimed to investigate the efficiency of Porcine Dermal Collagen on preventing Seroma, owing to its charasteristics such as 3-dimensional structure, being a component of normal human tissue and being inert and increasing adhesion.
