The syntactic of İstanbul'un Bir Yüzü a novel by Refik Halit Karay

This study is the investigation of Refik Halit Karay`s novel titled ?İstanbul?un Bir Yüzü (An Aspect of Istanbul)? in terms of syntax. Refik Halit Karay is one of the most important personalities of the Turkish literature and the best author of his time, as is indicated by Ziya Gökalp. The very rich language and style of the author has revealed the necessity for investigating this work in terms of syntax. The purpose of this study is to reveal the expression power of the Turkish language, author?s way of using the Turkish language, his manner of reflecting the feelings and thoughts on sentences, as well as the richness and beauty of Turkish. For this purpose, nine hundred and three sentences were selected from the novel. These sentences were analyzed with the sense of Modern linguistics. The section of ?Introduction? gave some information about Refik Halit Karay, the section of ?Marking the Concepts? approached features of independent concepts, the section of ?Base Elements? mentioned about base nouns and verbs, the section of ?Concept Relations? examined nouns and conjugations that establish a relation between concepts, the section of ?Sentence Elements? approached the styles of sentences being used in the text in terms of completing nouns and verbs, the section of ?Sentence Auxiliaries? investigated postpositions, addressings and digressions with examples, the section of ?Sentences According to their Structures? explained the sentence structures with examples, the section of ?Usage Levels of Sentences and Sentence Patterns? gave some statistical information about sentences and sentence patterns and the section of ?Conclusion? involved conclusions drawn from the general review.
