Abstract (EN)
The present research is aimed to study of genotoxic effects of antidepressantdrug Remeron (Mirtazapin) on human peripheral blood lymphocytes by in vitro sisterchromatid exchange (SCE), chromosomal abnormalities (CA) and micronucleus(MN) tests. The cells were treated with 10, 25, 40, and 55?g/ml Remeron for 24 and48 hours.Remeron did not induce the SCE, CA, and MN in human peripheral bloodlymphocytes in 24-h and 48-h treatment periods, showing that Remeron (Mirtazapin)do not have any genotoxic effects on human peripheral blood lymphocytes. Inaddition, the karyotype analysis carried out in order to detect the chromosomesshowing structural aberration. The result of the analysis showed that proliferationindex of the 24 and 48 hours treaded cells was decreased in a dose- dependentmanner. In addition, exposing to the Remeron (Mirtazapin) for 24 and 48 hourscaused to decrease MI and NDI in the cells. According to this study Remeron hascytotoxic effects on human's cells.
