Abstract (EN)

The aim of this research is to determine the level of mindfulness and spiritual well-being of teachers working in public schools in Istanbul and to examine the relationship between thesw two variables. 423 teachers, of them 126 male and 297 female, working in public schools in Istanbul have participated in this research. As data collection tools, Demographic Form is used. The Mindful Attention Awareness Scale is used to determine mindfullness scores, and Spiritual Well-Being Scale is used to determine spiritual well-being scores. First of all, the frequency and percentage distribution of demographic variables (gender, age, marital status, seniority) are given, and descriptive statistics on scale scores are given. Confirmatory Factor Analysis is used for the construct validity of the mindful attention awareness scale and the spiritual well-being scale. In addition, Cronbach Alpha values for these scales are calculated to determine the reliability of the scales. For the research questions, the Independent Sample T Test, One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), Pearson Correlation and Regression Analysis were conducted. According to the results of the research, there is no statistically significant difference in the mindfulness levels of the teachers according to the variables of gender, marital status and age. According to gender, female teachers' total score and spiritual well-being sub-dimensions of transcendence and harmony with nature are found to be higher than male teachers. Total spiritual well-being scores do not differ according to marital status and age. The anomie score of the sub-dimension of spiritual well-being is found to be high in married teachers. According to the age variable, in the anomie sub-dimension, the scores of 31-40 age group and the scores of 41-50 age group are found to be statistically higher than the scores of 30-year-old and younger group. There is no correlation between mindfulness and spiritual well-being in total scores. A weak positive correlation is found between the anomine sub-dimension of spiritual well-being (lack of meaning and purpose, dissatisfaction), and mindfulness. Considering the continuing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, research findings on mindfulness and spiritual well-being as factors affecting the well-being of the individual are discussed with the related literature.
