Rethinking the impact of the East Jerusalem wall as a manifestation of aparthied

This study strives to explore how the East Jerusalem Wall affects Palestinians by emphasizing on the aspects of Palestinian evictions from their lands as well as the separation of families that has worsened further, the already existing socio-political and economic problems facing the country. The study highlights the role of close family relations as socio-psychological coping mechanisms for the perpetual political turbulence experienced in the Palestinian Occupied Territories as a result of Israeli occupation. Beyond the existence of the wall as a physical barrier, the study recognizes that wall has destroyed the social capital for the Palestinian communities which is of utmost importance with regard to any collective efforts to improve the quality of life particularly after the construction of the Wall that has segregated East Jerusalem and Israel from the West Bank. The Wall has emerged to represent social and economic fragmentation in the region. As such, the thesis concludes by providing a set of recommendations that seek to provide a redress to the social, economic and political challenges that have emerged in the form of apartheid due to the construction of the wall barrier.
