Transcript and evalation of Rifat Efendi's "Ahlak-ı Nazari ve Terâcim-i Ahvâl-i Hükemâ"

Many books, articles and theses have been written about Ottoman thinkers and their works and will continue to be written. However, apart from a few studies on Rifat Efendi and his works, no significant academic study has been done. For this reason, we tried to examine his life, works and views. This study, in which we deal with Rifat Efendi's work called Ahlak-ı Nazari ve Terâcim-i Ahval-i Hükemâ, consists of two parts. In the introduction, information about Rifat Efendi's life and works is discussed. In the first part, the transcript of the work Ahlak-ı Nazari and Terâcim-i Ahval-i Hükemâ was made. In the second part, the concepts related to morality in the work are evaluated and philosophical comparisons are given. It is possible to see the traces of philosophers such as Farabi and Ibn Sina in a significant part of Rifat Efendi's views on moral science and the concepts he used. In addition, we can say that the views of Gazali and one of the Ottoman philosophers, Kınalızade Ali Efendi, were also influential on Rifat Efendi's ideas.
