Abstract (EN)

During the First World War, Çanakkale Strait witnessed one of the toughest conflicts with the British in history and this eight-month war allowed the New Zealand army, known as the Anzacs, and the British army, which included Australian soldiers, to settle on the Gallipoli Peninsula. During this war, the diaries held by Australian and New Zealand soldiers and officers were based on individual observations, and in a sense they were a personal record of history. These diaries kept during the clashes in Gallipoli function as secondary historical sources in 1915, and some Anzac officers who found consolation to express themselves with lyrical verses during the clashes, wrote their own poems to cope with the violence of the war by using the aesthetics of poetry. These poems are not only lyrical reflections of a deadly reality, but also a painful depiction of war. The poems, in This Intimate War, are the subject of this study, and aimed to be analyzed while focusing on the emotional effects of war on individuals, and they will be threated not as asources of historical knowledge; but as texts that use history as a poetry material.
