Comparative analysis of the romantic period within the framework of British and Canadian literature with the multiple method

While the Romantic period, based on official dates in English literature, corresponds to a period between 1800 and 1850, nothing can be said for sure about its beginning or end. The origin of Romanticism is human. Not only the upper class and those who close to the ruling class, but also peasants, workers, homeless, abandoned, women, children and the elderly find a home for the first time in the field of poetry. Freedom, equality and revolution advocated by the French Revolution were at the core of Romanticism. Since the Romantic period, which was a conscious uprising against the Classicism movement, defended and glorified human values, its effects still continue to exist in many fields of art even today. The emergence of Romanticism almost took place synchronically in Europe and showed similar characteristics. In terms of these similarities, this thesis investigates whether this literary period, which gave great importance to nature and swept Europe, has a counterpart in Canada which has a unique nature. It has been learned that Canadian Romanticism, though not as a period, was limited to a small group of poets called Confederation Poets. It was also examined whether there was a social or political event of the kind that led to its emergence in England on the basis of Canadian Romanticism. Because, Because it would be an inaccurate and incomplete approach to analyze this revolutionary movement in literature in terms of aesthetics and semantics by focusing only on the works without scrutinising the underlying sociological reasons. In this thesis, after discovering the important historical events and results of both cultures, the literary works were examined and compared within the framework of the six romantic aspects that Wordsworth emphasized in the "Preface" of The Lyrical Ballads which has been accepted as the manifesto of Romantic movement.
